The first projects in Caron Simply Soft

3 skeins of Caron simply soft yarn

I sit here trying to remember the first time that I used Caron Simply Soft yarn. And I am stumped as to what that first project really was. I know that I used it for an afghan that I made for my brother. But the desire to use it came from a previous project. I picked that yarn for the variety of colors available and that I liked the softness of the yarn for a reasonable price.

The pattern that I used for that project was not a favorite but I keep going back to the yarn. I have used it many times since that project for my brother. Even to the point of adding different colors to my yarn stash just to have them.

I am currently using it to make a temperature blanket, using for the temps from this year, 2020. I chose to use this yarn because I enjoy working with it and I had many color options already in my yarn stash. The temperature blanket is made in granny squares designed by Becca Jean’s World.

Previously, I designed an afghan using Caron that had a lot of single crochet and double crochet. It is a very warm and heavier afghan than you might expect. I keep it in my camper and it has kept me very warm on those cold nights.

Caron simply soft is a medium (4) or worsted weight yarn. It is 100% acrylic and machine washable and dryable. The recommended hook is an H 5mm and needle size is US 8 5mm. It is available in 42 different colors. Making it a good choice for any type of project.

Pros

This yarn comes in a wide variety of colors making it a good for a project in any season. There are solids, ombres, stripes and tweeds.

It is a very affordable yarn, making it an economic choice. Especially for those larger projects.

While being affordable, it is also softer than some in the same price range. A huge win in my opinion.

It is also very versatile, good for many different projects.

Cons

It does have a tendency to unwind when crocheting. Not terribly but if you are not paying attention you may put the hook between the ply of the yarn.

While it is softer, it has a slightly slippery texture to it. This has caused some projects to unravel. I have used different techniques since to help prevent this on future projects.

Final Thoughts

Caron Simply Soft Yarn is an economic worsted weight yarn that is highly versatile. It comes in many colors and available in many different stores. In my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons and I recommend this yarn for your next project.
