Lion Brand Yarn Vanna’s Choice: Yarn Review

Yarn Basics of Vanna’s Choice

Lion Brand Yarn Vanna’s Choice is a 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn or medium (4) weight yarn. It is machine wash and dryable. This yarn comes in a variety of colors that coordinate well with each other. There are both neutrals and bright colors; taupe, black and charcoal and antique rose, mustard and sky blue just for a few examples.

The yarn works up quickly and is softer than some of the other economical 100% acrylic worsted weight yarns. There is some slight untwisting when crocheting but nothing that made it hard to work with. While crocheting, I ran into a couple of knots mid skein which makes it awkward to work with.

Using the yarn

I first encountered this yarn when I was looking for patterns on Joann.com. I found a pattern that I liked and wanted to make which resulted in my first purchase of Lion Brand Yarn Vanna’s Choice. My enjoyment of the pattern made me want to make it again. The second afghan was also made with Vanna’s choice for my dad in different colors. I started to add Vanna’s Choice to my yarn stash in a variety of colors. In my head, I was building up the stash to do a granny square afghan of varying colors. I still haven’t made that afghan.

However, that stash gave me the starting point for the colors I needed to make a sunflower blanket for a friend. I did have to purchase much more as I only had one skein of each color that I used. At that point, the colors had become more limited in-store and I had to order online to get the yarn that I needed to finish. I chose to use chocolate, mustard and kelly green to make the afghan with mustard being the only one available in the stores.

Since the purchasing of the yarn, that has changed and it is only available online. As found here on Joann.com.

Yarn Review

Good points: soft, easy working worsted weight yarn, inexpensive, a large variety of colors including neutrals, brights, and country hues.

Negative points: Not all colors readily available in stores, some unraveling during use, occasional knots in the skeins.

Overall: The yarn is easy to work with and affordable. Despite the negative points, I would use it again for another project.
